Wild 3rd Period Highlights Bruins Comeback, Beat North Iowa 5-4

Nov 26, 2022

MASON CITY, IA – Three minutes is all the Bruins would need to score three goals to complete the comeback over the North Iowa Bulls on Saturday Night and head back to Riverside Arena with 2 points in the standings.

After falling Friday night in Austin, the Bruins looked to bounce back on Saturday down in Mason City. The night didn’t start the way the Bruins would like, however, as North Iowa would jump out with the early lead with a Power Play goal from Byron Hartley. Jackson Luther would answer right back to tie the game up at 1-1. That would be his 5th of the season coming at the 16:21 mark of the first period. The Bulls would add another Power Play goal in the last two minutes of the period from Max Scott to give North Iowa a 2-1 lead after the first twenty minutes of action in Mason City.

The lone goal of the second period would come from Gavin Morrissey as he would rip a shot from the high-slot past Erik Chaffe to tie the game up at 2-2. The start of the third period would be a rough one for the Bruins as North Iowa would add two more Power Play goals, one from Nolan Abraham and the other from Eli Miller to give the Bulls a 4-2 lead. The final three minutes would be a wild one, as Ocean Wallace would pull the Bruins back within a goal with his 4th of the season at the 16:53 mark of the period. That would be his only goal, as Wallace would tie the game up at 4-4 with less than a minute to play. The game-winner would come from Dylan Cook, who would snap a shot past Chaffe to give the Bruins the lead with eleven seconds left to play in the third. Cooks goal would hold as the Bruins would complete the comeback and take the win with a final of 5-4.

Trent Wiemken would pick up his 6th win of the season stopping 19 of the 23 shots he would face on the night. Up next, the Bruins welcome the Minot Minotauros back to Austin for a two game set on December 2nd and 3rd.
