Wiemken’s 21-Save Performance Leads Bruins to 2-1 Win

Mar 11, 2023

ABERDEEN, SD – The Bruins looked to extend their lead in the Central Division Friday Night and did just that in a 2-1 win over Division Rival Aberdeen.

In the first meeting between the two clubs in a little over two months, the Austin Bruins looked to continue their recent success against the Wings after sweeping them at Riverside Arena. It did not take long for the Bruins to get on the board as Josh Giuliani would net his 18th of the season just 1:44 into the first period. Isaak Brassard and Austin Salani would combine on the lone goal of the period.

It would be late in the second period when the Bruins would add their second goal of the night, this time coming off the stick of Gavin Morrissey. This 16th goal of the year would come short-handed as he would outmaneuver Wings Goalie Cole Moore to make it a then 2-0 lead to the locker room after forty minutes of play in Aberdeen. Kyle Contessa would score the lone Wings goal off a quick feed from Owen Dubois to pull Aberdeen back within a goal. Trent Wiemken would continue to be solid between the pipes for the Bruins as he would stand tall and hold off the Wings to come away with a 21-save performance to backstop the Bruins to a 2-1 win.

The Bruins wrap up their Regular Season series with the Wings tomorrow night as they look for the weekend sweep. Puck drop is set for 7:15 PM CST.
