Three Bruins Honored with Divisional Awards; Sheriff Named MVP, Mysak Named Defenseman of the Year

AUSTIN, Minn. – The North American Hockey League announced Tuesday that three Austin Bruins have earned NAHL Central Division honors including Dante Sheriff as Central Division MVP and All-Central Division Team, Josef Mysak as the Central Division Defenseman of the Year and All-Central Division Team, and Travis Shoudy as the Central Division Academic Achievement Award winner.

Following a 2019-20 season which saw him finish tied for fourth place in the NAHL in points scored, Dante Sheriff was selected as the Central Division MVP and also named to the NAHL All-Central Division Team. Sheriff, 20, finished with 62 total points this season, on pace to break his single-season career high of 67 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During his stellar third junior season, Sheriff took hold of the Austin Bruins all-time scoring leader record when he scored his 147th career point in January, surpassing Travis Kothenbeutel. The Woodbridge, Ontario, native finished his junior career with 158 points in 141 games. The Mercyhurst University commit played his entire NAHL career with the Bruins and not only is he the franchises’ leader in points scored, Sheriff ranks tenth all-time in games played, second in goals scored, and first in assists.

Josef Mysak was also honored on Tuesday, being named the the NAHL Central Division Defenseman of the Year award and also earning a spot on the NAHL All-Central Division Team. Mysak, 20, finished his final year in juniors by scoring 36 total points, good enough for fifth in the league among defenseman. Another long-time Bruins, Mysak played in 152 total games for the black-and-gold, putting him in eighth place all-time. Committed to Niagara University, Mysak’s career 59 points puts him forth all-time with the Bruins.

On Monday it as Tiernan Shoudy who recieved recognition from the NAHL but on Tuesday, it was Travis Shoudy earned honors. Not only was Travis a stout defender for the Bruins but his 4.3 GPA was not only the highest on the team, but also earned him the NAHL Central Division Academic Achievement Award. Shoudy, 18, had a successful rookie season for he Bruins, earning a call–up to the USHL in early 2020. All players in the Central Divison are eligible for he Academic Achievement Award but is only handed out to on player per division, per year.
