Sheriff Nets Overtime Winner, Bruins Hunt Down Minotauros 2-1

Nov 30, 2018

AUSTIN, Minn. – Dante Sheriff scored both of the Bruins goals including an overtime game-winner on the breakaway to propel the Bruins to victory over their division rival Minot Minotauros.

The first period was mostly back-and-forth play for both teams as they looked for open ice in this first of two games between the two clubs this weekend. It was the Bruins who struck first with only 13 seconds left to go in the opening frame when Garett Dahm’s pass to center ricocheted off the foot of Dante Sheriff and past a sliding Ben Garrity to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

After a scoreless second period, the Minotauros battled their way back into the game late in the third period. A shot from the point off the stick Matt Gellerman hit the pads of Kyle McClellan and bounced past the Bruins net-minder.

Despite allowing the comeback, the black-and-gold kept up their fast pace of play and with only a minute and 25 seconds left to go in the overtime period, Dante Sheriff stripped Minotauros defender Levi Klieboer and broke in on a breakaway. Cutting to the slot, Sheriff calmly slid the puck five-hole and sent Riverside Arena into a frenzy.

The Bruins are back on home ice again Saturday for game two against the Minotauros. It’s Teddy Bear Toss presented by Hometown Broadcasting and Power96. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used soft plush stuffed animal to throw directly on the ice after the Bruins score their first goal. All the collected teddy bears will be donated to the Salvation Army of Austin. Tickets are still available for the climactic showdown Saturday night at all the Bruins ticket partners including Games People Play, Hy-Vee, Holiday Inn, and Jim’s Marketplace.
