Robertson’s 38 Save Performance Lead Bruins to Weekend Sweep of North Iowa

Mar 12, 2022

AUSTIN, MN – In the final regular-season meeting between the two Central Division rivals, the Austin Bruins would take a 2-1 win on Saturday Night.

Coming off a win last night down in Mason City, the Austin Bruins looked to ride the high they were on tonight back at Riverside Arena. Alex Trombley would light the lamp first for the Bruins, his first since October 30th, to give the Bruins the early 1-0 lead. Walter Zacher and Braidan Simmons-Fischer would combine on the assist. It could have easily been a 3-0 lead for the Bruins going into the 2nd period, but Hunter Garvey made two big highlight-reel saves to keep it at a one-goal deficit after the 1st period.

The physicality would pick up in the 2nd period, as both teams would be evenly matched up to start the period. However, the Bruins would pick up their 2nd Chad Thomas Thrivent Financial Power Play of the weekend off of a snipe from Walter Zacher, his 10th of the season, to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead with less than 4 minutes to play in the 2nd. North Iowa would get their lone goal of the night of a shot from Greg Japchen at the 19:11 mark of the 2nd.

Ethan Robertson would shut the door in the 3rd period limiting any and all chances North Iowa would have to help lead the Bruins to a 2-1 win and a weekend sweep of the Bulls. Robertson would stop 38 of the 39 shots he would face.

Up next for the Bruins, they host the St. Cloud Norsemen next Friday night at Riverside Arena. Puck drop set for 7:05 PM.
