Riddle’s Late Goal Propels Bruins to Weekend Sweep of Wings

AUSTIN, MN – The Austin Bruins were able to complete the weekend sweep of the Aberdeen Wings to now find themselves in a tie for 2nd place going into the final week of the regular season.

After clinching a playoff spot last night with a 3-0 win the Bruins looked to complete the weekend sweep of the Aberdeen Wings in the final regular-season home game of the year. After a scoreless 1st period, the action would heat up 4:06 into the 2nd period when Ocean Wallace would break the proverbial ice to give the Bruins the early 1-0 lead. Aberdeen would get their first of the night off of an awkward redirect of Kevin MacKay’s shot to end Klayton Knapp’s shutout streak of 90:31. The Bruins would get one right back of a rebounded shot from Nick Catalano in which Braidan Simmons-Fischer would tap one in past Anton Castro to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead to the locker room after the 2nd period.

The eventual game-winner would come from the stick of Carson Riddle, who would snipe a shot over the glove of Castro to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead 3:47 into the 3rd period. Aberdeen would answer back with one of their own 5:10 later to pull themselves back within one goal but would not be able to rebound back as the Bruins would come away with a 3-2 win and sweep the Wings on home ice.

Bruins now need one win in their last two games to secure home ice during the first round of the Robertson Cup Playoffs. Austin closes out the regular season next weekend on the road in Aberdeen with puck drop for both Friday and Saturday night’s game scheduled for 7:15 PM.
