Noren’s Shootout Goal the Difference Maker, Bruins take down Norsemen 2-1

Sep 23, 2023

AUSTIN, MN – The Bruins’ Home Opener had all the dramatics as they took a 2-1 win over the St. Cloud Norsemen.

After finishing the NAHL Showcase with a 3-1 record, the Bruins returned to Riverside Arena Friday night for their Home Opener against the St. Cloud Norsemen. It wouldn’t take very long for the first goal to be scored as just 1:11 into the game, Isaak Brassard would score his 3rd of the season to give the Bruins the early 1-0 lead. It wouldn’t be until late in the first that we would see another score, as Louis Wehmann would net his 2nd of the season to tie the game up at 1-1.

From there, it would be all about the netminders as both Trent Wiemken and Ryan Manzella would be lights out with their performances during the 2nd and 3rd periods, it would be only fitting that the game would require more than sixty minutes of regulation.

For the first time this season, both the Bruins and Norsemen would find themselves in a shootout. St. Cloud’s Tyler Dysart would start things off for the Norsemen but would be denied by the blocker of Wiemken. Gustav Noren would get the nod first for the Bruins, as the Orebo, Sweden forward would snap a shot past Manzella to give the Bruins the lead in the shootout. From there, Wiemken would shut the door to help lead the Bruins to a 2-1 win. Wiemken would stop 31 of the 32 shots he would face en route to his 3rd win of the Season.

The Bruins’ homestand continues tomorrow as they welcome the North Iowa Bulls to Austin for the first time this year. Game time for Saturday night is scheduled for 7:05 PM CST.
