MINOT, ND. – Following their win on Friday night, the Bruins weren’t able to complete the sweep as the Minot Minotauros bested the Bruins on Saturday, 5-2, despite Austin getting two tallies from Josef Mysak.
It took nearly the entire first period for the game’s first goal to be found, and unfortunately for the Bruins it came off the stick of a Minotauro. With only 1:49 left to go on the clock, Cody Sherman rifled a shot past Bruins netminder Brett Miller to give the ‘Tauros the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
In the second, the Bruins managed to even the score on their first power-play of the night. Carson Riddle fed the puck down low to Hugh Larkin who was standing on the doorstep of Minotauros netminder Ben Garrity. Larkin pound the puck past Garrity but not over the line. Instead, the puck rang off the bottom of the post and landed right on the tape of Josef Mysak who buried home the goal, his first of the night, pulling the Bruins even to 1-1. With time dwindling down in the middle period, the Minotauros once again struck with less than two minutes in the frame, this goal off the stick of Kevin Ness, and for the second straight intermission the Bruins found themselves down one, this time 2-1.
Out of the gate in the third the Minotauros increased their lead to two goals, their largest of the night to the point and the largest for either team on the weekend. While in the defensive zone, the Bruins attempted to clear the puck off the glass but it riccocheted off a body and landed in the high slot where Dan Russell was opportunistic and blasted a shot past miller for the 3-1 Minot lead.
The Bruins continued to fight in the final frame, pulling back within one when Mysak scored his second of the night, this time a wrap-around that beat Garrity, but that was all the offense the black-and-gold could muster. Minot added two empty net goals in the final minute of the third to seal the victory, 5-2.
With the loss the Bruins fall to 22-13-2-4 on the season while the Minotauros improve to 23-12-1-5 with the victory. Up next for the Bruins, they welcome the St. Cloud Blizzard to town on Friday,
