Multi-Player Effort Leads Bruins to Weekend Sweep of Aberdeen

AUSTIN, MN – For the second time this season, the Austin Bruins have completed a weekend sweep of the Aberdeen Wings in a 5-2 final Saturday night at Riverside Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the Bruins would strike first while on the Chad Thomas Thrivent Finacial Power Play, as Anthony Menghini would get his 7th goal of the season to give Austin the early 1-0 lead at the 5:56 mark of the 2nd period. The Bruins would add another goal in the 2nd as Justin Wright, playing in his second career NAHL game, would get his 1st career goal in the NAHL on a rebounded shot off the body of Wings net-minder, Dominik Wasik, to give them a 2 goal lead. Austin would add another goal late in the period, as Isaak Brassard would get a pass from Michal Jasenec to beat Wasik back door to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead to the locker room after 40 minutes of action.

Matys Brassard would join his brother, Isaak, on the scoring sheet, as Matys would collect his 6th goal of the season to give Austin a 4-0 lead with 12:33 left to play in the 3rd period. Klayton Knapp was pitching a shut-out until late in the period when Ronan Walsh would score his 2nd of the weekend to get Aberdeen on the board. The Wings would pull within two goals, with 2 minutes left to play in regulation, as Cade Neilson would capitalize on the man advantage for Aberdeen. Nick Catalano would tack on an empty-netter to an extra insurance goal to give the Bruins a 5-2 victory over the Central Division rivals. Knapp would stop 32 of the 34 shots he would face to pick up his 11th win on the season.

Bruins hit the road next weekend as they travel to Bismarck for the first time this season. Game time for both games are set for 7:15 PM CST.
