Kothenbeutel’s Four Point Night Powers Bruins Over Magicians

AUSTIN, MN – Evan Cholak, AJ Drobot, and Travis Kothenbeutel all racked up at least three points, while Alex Schilling made 19 saves, and the Bruins defeated the Minnesota Magicians 4-1 on Friday night at Riverside Arena.

The Magicians opened the scoring with a power play goal at 2:44 as Timo Walther banged a rebound home for a 1-0 lead. At 6:57, Evan Cholak went to the net off a faceoff and poked a loose puck past Magicians netminder Ivan Prosvetov to tie the game at one. At 15:44, Cholak set up Travis Kothenbeutel with a saucer pass and the Bruins led 2-1 heading into the first intermission.

About midway through the 2nd, Michael Piehler deflected a Kothenbutel blue-line shot on a power play to make it 3-1. It was Piehler’s 7th goal of the season and fifth in the last four home games. Less than 90 seconds later, Cholak struck again, finishing another rebound opportunity and opening up a 4-1 advantage. Cholak finished with two goals and an assist, while AJ Drobot had three assists, and Kothenbeutel racked up a goal and three helpers. Schilling’s 19 stops earned him his 3rd win of the season.

The Bruins and Magicians play again on Saturday night at Richfield Ice Arena, a 7:15 faceoff. Fans are encouraged to watch the game at Hoot & Ole’s Tavern, the official home of Bruins away games.
