Knapp Named Bauer NAHL Central Star of the Week

Jan 10, 2022

AUSTIN, MN – The North American Hockey League (NAHL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending January 9, 2022.  The Divisional Stars of the Week is a weekly feature during the 2021-22 regular season that honors the top performing players in each of the four NAHL divisions. Only players that are nominated by their respective teams are considered for the Divisional Players of the Week award.

Thanks to a weekend home sweep of the Minot Minotauros, the Austin Bruins moved back into 1st place in the Central Division. Goalie Klayton Knapp, 18, started and won both games, allowing just a single goal as he stopped 49 of 50 shots on the weekend. On Friday, the 6’2/180 lbs. native of Waterville, OH, made 28 saves in a 3-1 win. On Saturday, the NAPHL grad posted his first NAHL shutout, stopping all 21 shots that came his way in a 1-0 win. For the season, Knapp has an 8-4-1 record in 13 appearances with a 2.00 GAA and .926 save percentage. “Klayton was really good for us this weekend. He made some big saves and earned his first shutout in the NAHL. He’s always doing extra and as a coach, you love to see your goaltender doing that daily. We are excited to watch Klayton continue to develop in the second half of the season,” said Bruins head coach Steve Howard.

Walter Zacher was an honorable mention as well, as the Buffalo, New York native had 3 assists in the weekend series vs. Minot. Zacher now has 2G-4A-6P in his 6 games played this season for the Bruins.
