Jan 1, 2020

AUSTIN, Minn. – Bruins forward and current leading goal-scorer Hugh Larkin announced his commitment to Western Michigan University.

Larkin, 20, is in his second year with the Bruins and has registered 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) through the first half of the season. His 11 goals lead the team among active Bruins and his total points is good enough for second on the roster.

“Hugh has worked really hard for this opportunity and we are happy to see it pay off,” said Bruins Head Coach Steve Howard. “He plays a heavy game and is a big part of our offense. The Broncos are getting a great kid that can slot in anywhere in their lineup, right away. We expect Hugh to continue making a big impact for us down the stretch.”

The Livonia, MI, native began his junior career in 2017-18 playing in the BCHL for the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Larkin joined the Bruins in 2018-19 where he played in 57 games and tallied 39 total points.

“Being here in Austin for almost two years now has made me a better player and person,” said Larkin. It has brought me this opportunity and I can’t thank the organization and fans enough!”

With the commitment, Larkin becomes the Bruins eighth comitted player with a ninth currently rostered in the USHL. In addition,  Larkin becomes the third player on the Bruins roster committed to Western Michigan along with forwards Carson Riddle and Barrett Brooks.

Larkin and the rest of the Austin Bruins are back in action on Friday, January 3 against the Bismarck Bobcats in North Dakota. Following a two game set with the Bobcats, the Bruins have a rare Thursday night game before returning home on Friday, January 10 against the St. Cloud Blizzard. Tickets for the next Bruins home game go on sale Monday, January 6 at all the Bruins vendors including Games People Play, Hy-Vee, Holiday Inn, and Jim’s Marketplace. It’s Bruisers 10th birthday party and the team and several mascots from around the area are coming to celebrate the best mascot in all of the NAHL.
