Grizzlies Select Six in NA3HL Draft

ROCHESTER, MN – The Rochester Grizzlies, proud members of the NA3HL, selected six players in Wednesday’s NA3HL draft, as the inaugural roster begins to take shape.

With the 5th overall selection, forward Owen Bourdow became the first draft pick in Grizzlies history. Bourdow is a ’99 birthyear from Saginaw, MI and a three-year member of Meijer AAA Hockey. He put up 23 points in 53 games at the Midget level this past season. He’s 5’5, 132 pounds.

The Grizzlies took Bourdow’s teammate Brandon Kucera in the 2nd round, a defenseman in the Meijer program. Kucera is from Howell, MI and is also a ’99. The 6’2, 185-pound blueliner played for Victory Honda and Compuware prior to Meijer.

In round four, the Grizzlies chose a familiar name to Minnesota hockey fans, picking forward Cameron Zucker, younger brother of Wild winger Jason Zucker. He played in the NA3HL this past season with the Lansing Wolves, coming from the Las Vegas Storm program in his hometown. With the Wolves, he scored six goals with seven assists in 43 games. He’s 5’10, 154-pounds and a 2000 birthyear.

The Grizzlies had an additional fourth-round pick, and went local, taking Lourdes High’s Logan Olson. Olson played this past season with the Iowa Wild AAA program, and also suited up in one game for the NAHL’s Johnstown Tomahawks. Olson plays forward and defense, and is 5’10, 181 pounds.

In the sixth round, the Grizzlies selected forward Logan Geisness from Waukesha, WI. Most recently he played with Williston-Northampton Prep, registering 8 goals and 16 assists. The ’98 birthyear played 134 games at the high school level between Waukesha High, University School, and Team Wisconsin. In that time, he’s totaled 57 goals and 123 assists. Geisness measures in at 5’11, 185.

With their final pick of the draft, the Grizzlies went with forward Brandon McGill in round eight.  A ’99 from Mequon, WI, McGill played with Geisness at University School and Williston-Northampton, putting up 2 goals and 10 assists there. He also joined the Springfield Jr. Rifles at the Midget level this past season. McGill is 5’10, 161-pounds.

The NA3HL announced its 2018-19 divisional realignment on Tuesday, putting the Grizzlies in the West Division with North Iowa, Alexandria, New Ulm, Breezy Point, Granite City, and Willmar.
