Furuseth’s Late Power Play Goal Springs Bruins over Titans

Sep 15, 2023

BLAINE, MN – Damon Furuseth’s first goal of the season proved vital as the Bruins took down the New Jersey Titans 4-3.

Day 3 of the NAHL Showcase in Blaine would match the Bruins up with the New Jersey Titans in an afternoon affair. The first twenty minutes of play would end up scoreless, but that was not due to a lack of offense by the Bruins. Austin would put up 21 shots while limiting New Jersey to 3 during the 1st period.

The action would pick up in the middle frame as the red-hot Bruin Power Play continued as Dylan Cook would net his first goal of the season just 2:47 into the period to give the Bruins the early 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, Christin Wood for New Jersey would tie the game up at 1-1 as he blasted a shot past Bruins rookie goalie Matt MacArthur. The Titans would extend their lead courtesy of Dominik Bartecko’s second of the season at the 6:40 mark of the period. At 11:06, the Bruins would find themselves back on the Power Play due to a Tripping penalty assessed to Cannon Lentz and Alex Laurenza would take advantage. Laurenza’s second goal of the season and the showcase tied the game up at 2-2 and it would stay that way until the beginning of the 3rd period.

Just :47 into the 3rd, Dylan Cook would find a loose up in the crease of the Titan’s net to pick up his second goal of the afternoon and gave Austin a then 3-2 lead. With pressure late in the period, Arhip Sidarovich would crash the net behind MacArthur which would lead to a turnover for the young net-minder. Sidarovich would find the wide-open net to tie the game up at 3-3 with a little over 7 minutes to play in regulation. New Jersey would be assessed a Boarding Minor at 17:53 and that’s all the Bruin’s Power Play needed. Damon Furuseth would go coast-to-coast and score the eventual game-winning goal to secure a 4-3 win for the Bruins. Matt MacArthur would collect his first win of the season while stopping 14 of the 17 shots he would face.

The 2023 NAHL Showcase concludes tomorrow as the Bruins take on the Fairbanks Ice Dogs at 5:30 pm CST up at the NSC Super Rink in Blaine.
