Bruins Take Down Bobcats in Home Opener

Oct 15, 2016

AUSTIN, MN – The Bruins scored within the first and last minute of the second period to seize momentum over the Bismarck Bobcats and capture a 4-1 home opener win on Friday night at Riverside Arena.

Following a scoreless opening frame, Logan Haskins scored 53 seconds into the 2nd, moving into the slot and beating Bismarck goaltender Will Ulrich up high for a 1-0 Bruins lead. It was Haskins’ 4th goal of the season – and third against the Bobcats. Assists were credited to Michael Piehler and Jan Stefka. The Bruins had an extended 5 on 3 powerplay that came up empty but at 19:29, Evan Cholak doubled up the lead, driving the net and finishing off a Jon Richards opportunity. The Bruins led 2-0 at the 2nd intermission.

With just under six minutes to play, former Bruin Zach Kennedy burned his old team, capitalizing on a giveaway by Bruins netminder Jake Kucharski. Bismarck’s Nick Alexander was assessed a major penalty for head contact with 2:29 left, all but killing the Bobcats chances at tying the game. AJ Drobot and Piehler iced the game with empty netters.

Kucharski earned his 2nd win, making 25 saves on 26 shots. The Bruins and Bobcats finish the weekend series on Saturday night at Riverside Arena with a 7:05 faceoff. Tickets are available for $4 off the door price at the Bruins ticket vendors. The game will be broadcast on HockeyTV, as well as AM 1480 KAUS and myaustinminnesota.com, beginning at 6:55.
