Bruins Showcase Opponents Announced

Aug 5, 2019

AUSTIN, Minn. – For the fourth consecutive season the Austin Bruins will begin their regular season at the NAHL Showcase and on Monday the league announced each team’s schedule with the Bruins taking on four out-of-division teams in four days. The Bruins opponents for this year’s Showcase are Jamestown, Janesville, New Mexico, and Kenai River.

Austin’s first regular-season opponent of the 2019-20 season will be an afternoon showdown against the Jamestown Rebels on Thursday, September 18 at 1:30 P.M. CDT. Jamestown finished second in the East Division in 2018-19 and this will be the first regular-season matchup between these two teams in their history. Jamestown was previously located in Aston, PA, as well as Philadelphia, PA, but never crossed paths with the Bruins.

The second competition of the showcase comes on Thursday night with a prime time game battle against the Janesville Jets. The Bruins and the Jets played an exhibition game in 2018-19 but haven’t seen each other during the regular season since 2017-18 where the Bruins went 1-1-1-1 against Janesville.

Perhaps the biggest storyline for the Bruins during the NAHL Showcase comes on Friday, September 20, where the when Austin takes on one of the league’s newest teams, the New Mexico Ice Wolves. Not only is this the first-ever meeting between the two clubs, but it’s also the first time the Bruins will compete against former Assistant Coach Keenan Kelly who is now a member of the Ice Wolves coaching staff.

Rounding out the four games in four days is the battle of the bears when the Bruins take to the ice against the Kenai River Brown Bears. Austin and Kenai met at Riverside Arena for the preseason finale last year in a game chocked full of excitement and fireworks.

The NAHL Showcase is played over four days at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, MN. Each team will line up as the home team for two games while playing as a visitor for the other two. For all of the NAHL Central Division, the Showcase marks the start of the season, however select teams across the league will have played in a handful of regular-season games before descending on Blaine.

After the NAHL Showcase, the Bruins set off to Aberdeen where they’ll face the defending Roberston Cup Champion Wings for a pair of games on September 27 and 28. Austin hosts their first home game at Riverside Arena against those same Wings on Friday, October 5 with an encore on Saturday, October 6.
