Bruins Score Three In Third to Force Overtime, Fall in Shootout to Aberdeen 4-3

AUSTIN, Minn. – In one of the most exciting games of the season, the Bruins battled back scoring three unanswered in the third period to force overtime but feel the Aberdeen Wings 4-3 in a shootout.

It took 40 minutes of play for the Bruins to get going but once the third period started it was all black-and-goal. Trailing in the game 3-0, they got to work early with a close-proximity goal from Dante Zapata. Hugh Larkin fed Zapata in the slot who was just outside the blue paint to poke one home and make the game 3-1.

Twelve nail-biting minutes went by before the Bruins made things really interesting, this time it was Zapata returning the favor to Larkin, setting him up for his eighth of the season. With the score 3-2, Kyle McClellan shut the door on a breakaway to keep the Bruins in the game who in return promptly tied things up off the stick of Che Landikusic.

Overtime was end-to-end with each team finding chances but neither McClellan nor Wings goalie Matt Vernon cracked. In the shootout, it would be Aberdeen prevailing with goals from Joe Strada and John Sladic while the Bruins were held without a goal.

The Bruins hit the road for five straight road games starting with back-to-back games against Minot, two straight against the Wings in Aberdeen, and a home-and-home series with the Magicians.

The Bruins return home on Saturday, February 2, 2019, for Paint the Rink Pink. Tickets go on sale Monday, January 14, 2019, at all the Bruins vendors including Games People Play, Hy-Vee, Holiday Inn, and Jim’s Marketplace.
