Bruins Reclaim Division Lead with Sweep of North Iowa

MASON CITY, IA – On a physical Saturday Night, the Bruins pull away with a 4-1 win over the North Iowa Bulls.

After taking a 5-3 win on Friday night in Austin, the Bruins looked to cap off the weekend with a win. 3 minutes into the game, the Bruins would find themselves on the Chad Thomas Thrivent Financial Power Play, and Jack Malinksi would capitalize to collect his 3rd goal of the season to give the Bruins the early 1-0 inside the Mason City Arena.

It would stay 1-0 until 12:42 into the 2nd period when Braidan Simmons-Fischer would snipe one past Bull netminder, Hunter Garvey, to give Austin and then 2-0 lead. 15:55 into the 2nd, Bruins would find themselves down a man and on the Kris Heichel Team Powered by Fairway Mortage Penalty Kill when Michal Jasenec would find Carson Riddle to pick up his 2nd shorthanded goal of the season.

Both teams would come out blazing in the 3rd period, as North Iowa would get their lone goal of the game 22 seconds into the period, as Carter Rapalje would sneak one past Klayton Knapp to pull the Bulls within 2 goals. That two-goal lead, however, wouldn’t last as Riddle would pick up his 2nd goal of the evening to seal the deal for the Bruins in a 4-1 final. Knapp would stop 27 of the 28 shots he would face on the evening.

With the win, the Bruins are back on top in the Central Division with 29 points. Up next, Austin plays host to the Aberdeen Wings for the first time this season next Friday and Saturday night. Puck drop set for 7:05 PM on both nights.
