Bruins Power Play to Victory

The Austin Bruins returned to Riverside Arena to battle the Alexandria Blizzard in the first junior hockey playoff game since 1985. The Bruins started the opening frame with a power play opportunity and were able to capitalize as Charlie Adams was set up by John Kirby and Matt Hansen. The Bruins hard work down low was able to create a 5 on 3 for the Bruins later in the first. Michael Bitzer was able to help the Blizzard kill off the penalty with a couple of nice saves. At the end of one period of play Austin led 1-0 and outshot Alexandria 18-8. The second period the Bruins took a 2-0 lead on their second power play goal of the evening Tyler Bruggeman and Brandon Wahlin had assists. Austin made it 3-0 with the third power play goal of the night, Matt Hansen was set up by Charlie Adams and John Kirby. The Bruins continued to pressure the Blizzard from every angle. Alexandria pulled Michael Bitzer late as Austin scored an empty netter Austin Nelson scores his first goal of the playoffs. Tyler Bruggeman picks up the shutout as the Bruins win 4-0 in front of 1629 fans.
