Bruins PK Struggles in Loss to Blizzard

Oct 12, 2017

BROOKINGS, SD – Max Sasson scored two power play goals and that was enough for the Brookings Blizzard who topped the Bruins 2-1 on Wednesday night at Larson Ice Center. The Bruins fell to 0-3-3 on the season, but it was their fifth one-goal loss in six games.

For the fourth consecutive game, the Bruins scored first when DeVon Fields blasted a slap shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle at 6:31 of the opening period, assisted by Kaiden Scott. Sasson tied it up at 16:35 of the first when Alex Schilling kicked out a big rebound on a Cameron Teamor power play shot. The Bruins outshot the Blizzard 10-9 in the first.

The game stayed tied at one until the final minute of the second period when Sasson struck again, this time off the rush with a nifty behind the back move that deflected off of Bruins defenseman Lane Krenzen. Brookings led 2-1 after two.

The Bruins mustered only five shots on goal in the third and couldn’t find a way to tie it as Zachary Borgiel held down the fort in the Blizzard goal, making 24 saves. The Bruins will host Brookings in a rematch on Saturday at 7:05 PM at Riverside Arena. It’s Austin Youth Hockey Night – all AYH players will receive free admission with a paid adult. (limit 3 players per adult)
