Bruins Overpowered By Minotauros, 5-2

Feb 16, 2019

AUSTIN, Minn. – In a game where Minot never lost the lead, the Bruins found themselves outpowered and fell by a final score of 5-2.

The first period began much like last night’s game, filled with defensive positioning and big saves. After one period, only one goal was scored with Minot taking the lead, 1-0.

In the second, Minot added to their total when David Raisanen scored his second goal of the night to put Minot up 2-0. Jed Pietila got the Bruins on the board with a nifty shot that beat Minotauros goalie, Ben Garrity, through the legs and suddenly Austin had life, cutting the lead in half, 2-1.

The third period would be the downfall of the black-and-gold despite their best efforts. With the one-goal lead, Minot was able to add a little cushion when Andrew Kangas netted his thirteenth goal of the season making it a 3-1 game. To make things interesting, Dante Sheriff scored his ninth goal of the season to once again pull the Bruins within one, but a timely power-play goal followed by an empty-net tally from Minot sealed the game with the visiting Tauros earning the two points, 5-2.

Kyle McClellan made 34 saves on 38 shots he faced in the loss, while Ben Garrity earned the win and made 29 stops on 31 shots.

With the loss the Bruins fell to 24-15-0-6 on the season, dropping into third place in the NAHL Central Division while Minot rose up to second and improved their record to 27-18-1-0.

The Bruins are back in action on Friday, February 22 with a home game against the Minnesota Wilderness. Tickets for the game go on sale Monday, February 18 at all the Bruins vendors including Games People Play, Hy-Vee, Holiday Inn, and Jim’s Marketplace.
