Bruins Finish Sweep with Shutout

Jan 13, 2018

BROOKINGS, SD – Alex Schilling stopped all 33 shots that came his way while a pair of defenseman scored the goals and the Bruins won their fifth in a row and third against the Blizzard in four nights, by a final of 2-0 on Saturday night at Larson Ice Center.

The first period was scoreless for over 18 minutes until Jaden Shields scored an impressive goal with 1:15 left. Shields took a pass from Dante Zapata in the netural zone and drove the net from the blue line in, out-waiting Brookings netminder Zachary Borgiel and sliding it past him. It was the first time in six games the Bruins scored the first goal. They led 1-0 at the end of one.

After killing an early second period penalty, Lane Krenzen extended the lead to 2-0 with his first goal since October 18th. Krenzen and Petrick worked a give-and-go up the left side, with Krenzen finishing an angled shot behind Borgiel. The score stayed 2-0 through the end of 40 minutes.

The Bruins took three more minor penalties in the third but finished the penalty kill 6 for 6 on the night and Alex Schilling shut the door, completing a 33 save shutout, his second of the season. Borgiel stopped 31 in the loss.

The Bruins travel to Minot next weekend for a pair of games beginning at 8:05 PM at Maysa Arena.
