Bruins fall in preseason opener to Magicians

AUSTIN, MN – The Bruins opened the 2016-17 preseason at home on Friday night with a 5-1 loss to the Minnesota Magicians. The Magicians scored three of their five goals in the 2nd period while the Bruins were only able to muster a second period power play goal.

The Magicians broke the scoreless tie just past the halfway mark of the first period when Daniel Skarda banged home a rebound on a Magicians power play. Robbie Goor, who started the game in goal for the Bruins, played the first 30 minutes, and was met with a barrage of shots early in the second period. Breakaway goals by Taylor Tweeten and Mitch Slattery put the Magicians up 3-0. The Bruins got on the board at 13:40 of the middle frame when Evan Cholak deflected a shot from Alexander Piliya on a Bruins power play. Eden Prairie native Cole Lawrence picked up a secondary assist.

Cameron Buhl beat Rochester-born Brady Meyers (John Marshall High School) at 16:03 of the 2nd before NAHL veteran Will Hammer capped off the scoring at 12:58 of the third. The Magicians improved to 3-0-0 in the preseason, and the two teams will play again Saturday night at Richfield Ice Arena – a 7:00 faceoff.
