Sep 18, 2021

BLAINE, MN- After a strong 3-0 start to the regular season, the Bruins fall in the final game of the NAHL Showcase to the Minnesota Magicians in Overtime.

Austin and the Minnesota Magicians would meet for the first and only time this season on the final day of the NAHL Showcase. The long-time rival for the Bruins would get one the board first at the 15:47 mark of the 1st period as Michigan Tech commit, Trevor Kukkonen would score on a feed from Nicholas Babbie and Cam Boche. This would be the lone score of the period as Austin would find themselves trialing 1-0 after the 1st period.

The Bruins power play would again prove to be strong as Woodhaven and Howell Michigan natives, Dylan Gajewski and Alex Trombley would both score on the power play as the Bruins would strike twice in the 2nd period to give Austin the 2-1 going into the 3rd period. The lead would stay just that until the final 35 seconds of the 3rd period as the Magicians, Spencer Light would rocket one past the blocker of Hudson Hodges to tie the game up at 2-2 and force and 3-on-3 overtime period.

In the back and forth overtime period, both the Bruins and Magicians would have plenty of chances until Lucas Kanta found the loose puck in front of the Bruins goal and sneak it past the diving Hodges. Hodges would finish the night stoping 19 or the 22 shots he would face.

Up next for the Bruins is their Home Opener on Friday, September 24th vs. the Minot Minotauros. Game time is set for 7:05 pm CST. Single-game tickets are on sale now and you can secure your spot to catch all the action inside Riverside Arena by clicking here.
