Bruins earn point in OT loss to Brahmas

Sep 25, 2016

BLAINE, MN – A late goal by Charlie Spetz helped force overtime, but the Bruins gave up a 4 on 3 goal in the extra session to fall to the Lone Star Brahmas, 3-2, wrapping up the 2016 NAHL Showcase on Saturday afternoon.

The Bruins opened the scoring early when Michael Piehler backhanded home a rebound from a Toby Sengvongxay shot at 2:32 of the opening period. From that point on, however, the Brahmas dictated the action. Jake Kucharski was able to hold the 1-0 lead until early in the 2nd period when David Marabella was able to tie the game.

Tied at one entering the third, the Brahmas continued to dominate puck possession and Peter Kessell gave them the lead at 3:51, streaking down the slot. With 4:30 to go, Charlie Spetz blasted a point shot off a Justin Misiak face off win past Brahmas goaltender Erik Gordon to tie the game.

In overtime, Jon Richards took a hooking penalty, setting the stage for the Drake Glover game winner at 3:53. Kucharski racked up 40 saves to complete a stellar showcase. The Bruins moved to 2-1-1.

The Bruins head to Bismarck for a pair of 7:15 contests on Friday and Saturday night against the Bobcats in a rematch of last season’s Central Division finals. Pregame coverage begins at 7:05 on FASTHockey.com (AWAY feed) both nights, with Saturday’s game available on the radio as well on AM 1480 KAUS or myaustinminnesota.com.
