AUSTIN, MN – On back-to-back nights, the Bruins and the St. Cloud Norsemen need over sixty-five minutes of hockey to decide a winner, as the Norsemen took Saturday night’s final 1-0 in a shootout victory.
The Bruins returned to Riverside Arena for the first time for the 2022-23 season Saturday Night as they hosted the defending Central Division Champions, the St. Cloud Norsemen. A young Bruins team looked to bounce back after falling last night in St. Cloud and started off hot inside the friendly confines of Riverside Arena. During the first period of action, both teams would see multiple grade-a chances as both Ethan Robertson for the Bruins and Will Ingemann for the Norsemen would keep the game scoreless after the first twenty minutes of play.
The second forty minutes would be no different at both goalies would keep the shutout intact and Robertson would make a highlight reel glove save off out a point-blank chance from Hunter Hanson. Ingmann would do the same, as the ’05 affiliate player from Wayzata, MN would come up with some big-time stops and with some help from the Norsemen defensemen, would continue to keep the game scoreless through sixty minutes of regulation.
The Bruins would start the overtime frame with a minute and thirty seconds of a 4-on-3 power play but would not be able to capitalize, as Ingmann would continue his shut-out steak. Dylan Cook for the Bruins off of a clean pass from Walter Zacher would ring a shot off the top of the cross-bar in the closing seconds of the overtime fame and for the second straight night, we would go into a shoot-out.
In a similar fashion to Friday night in St. Cloud, Blake Perbix would lead things off with a glove-side goal in the shootout to give the Norsemen the early lead. Gavin Morrissey would tie things up, however, as the Bruins’ Alternate Captian would sneak a shot through the five-hole of Ingmann to extend the shootout. Tyler Dysart would get one right back for St. Cloud who would in turn only need a save to end the night on top.
Up next, the Bruins (4-0-0-2, 10pts) host the North Iowa Bulls (3-2-0-0, 6pts) for the first time this season next Friday Night for the team’s First Responders Night. All First Responders can enjoy free admission to the game, with proper credentials, as a thank you for their service.
