RICHFIELD, Minn. – The Bruins scored a little over two-and-a-half minutes into the game and never looked back as they took down the Minnesota Magicians, 5-2, on Saturday night.
Dealing with some injuries and the return of a few players from suspension, the Bruins and Head Coach Steve Howard were forced to shuffle some of their lines, and it showed immediate dividends. Connor Tilmon scored his third goal of the season just over two minutes into the game to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead on the road. Minnesota battled back in the opening frame with TJ Sagissor netting a goal on the power-play to even things at one, and both teams entered the locker room even up at 1-1.
In the second, the Bruins took control. Josef Mysak only needed 32 seconds to get Austin the lead back when he crashed in on the net slipping the puck past Magicians netminder Wes Mankowski. Later in the period, Ben Almquist added to his team-leading goals total with his first of the night – a wrister from the left circle – upping the Bruins lead to 3-1. Minnesota didn’t go away quietly, however, as once again they scored a power-play, and once again it was Sagissor for his second of the game.
In the third, Austin put the pedal to the metal. Almquist scored his second of the night on another wrist-shot and helped the Bruins jump out to a 4-2 lead. Just for good measure, the Bruins added one more when Peter Jacobs redirected a Dante Sheriff shot from the blue-line through Mankowski’s legs scoring Austin’s fifth, and final goal of the night.
With the win, the Bruins improved to 11-7-2-2 while the Magicians dropped their ninth-straight game falling to 4-12-4-2. The Bruins are back in action on Wednesday night taking on the Minnesota Wilderness in Cloquet before returning home on Black Friday.
