BRUINS ALUMNI REPORT: Sogaard Loaned to Denmark, Eller Wearing the “C”, and Millette Off to a Good Start

Dec 29, 2020

Denmark Pro: With none of the Canadian Major Junior leagues having begun play this season, many players have travelled overseas to play in Euorpean professional leagues to stay sharp. This includes former Bruin Mads Sogaard (Bruins ’17-18). Currently a member of the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL, Sogaard has been loaned to the Esbjerg Energy of the Denmark Professional League. Through eleven games, six of them as the starter, Sogaard has posted a save percentage of .943. Alongside fellow Bruin alumnus Valdemar Ahlberg, Sogaard and the Energy are currently sitting in third place in the Denmark Pro League with an 18-3-1 record. Sogaard is on loan to the Energy, so should the WHL pickup play in the future, Medicine Hat will see Sogaard return as they make a run for the Memorial Cup. The 20-year-old is in his last year of junior eligibility and the 2018 second-round draft pick of the the Ottawa Senators is likely to see time next season in the Senators farm-system.

NCAA DIII: Matt Eller (Bruins ’17-18) has been named Captain of the 2020-21 Adrian College Bulldogs. The defensemen is in his junior year and has nearly 60 games for his new black-and-gold team. Through six games this season Eller has assisted on two goals helping the Bulldogs to a 2-4-0-0 start. Eller isn’t the only former Bruin patrolling the blue-line for the Bulldogs as freshmen Jaden Shields is also on the roster and leads all defensemen in points through the opening games.

USHL:  On his second full season with the Dubuque Fighting Saints, Reggie Millette (Bruins ’17-19) continues to show improvement. After a 2019-20 campaign that saw him register nine points in 48 games played, the Florida native has already tallied a third of that total in just 11 games. With two goals and one assist, Millette is only a couple of goals off of tying his junior career-high of 4 goals in a season. Despite Millette’s strong start to the year, Dubuque has seen better days as they currently sit last in the USHL with a 2-10-0-0 record. Committed to American International College (NCAA DI), Millette will finish out the 2020-21 season in juniors before embarking on his collegiate career next season.
