BRUINS ALUMNI REPORT: Smith, Simonson move on, Adrian's run ended

ECHL: Keegan Asmundson (Bruins ‘10-11) started both games for the Indy Fuel this past weekend, stopping 27 of 30 in a 3-1 loss to Brampton on Saturday, before bouncing back and defeating Quad City with a 27 of 28 save effort on Sunday.

NCAA DI: CJ Smith (Bruins ’11-13) scored UMass-Lowell’s lone regulation goal of the Hockey East Quarterfinals on Friday before the River Hawks eventually won in triple overtime. Their conference run would come to an end the next night in a 3-2 loss to Northeastern, but they’ll play Yale in the NCAA East Regional Semifinals in Albany, NY on Saturday night. Eamon McAdam (Bruins ’10-11) made 35 saves as Penn State claimed a 5-2 win over Wisconsin on Thursday in the Big Ten Quarterfinals in St. Paul. They were defeated by Michigan, 7-2 on Friday, ending their season. Alex Jasiek (Bruins ’14-15) finished his season strong, assisting on Dartmouth’s only goal in a 3-1 loss to Quinnipiac in the ECAC Semifinals. Jonny Simonson (Bruins ’11-13) didn’t pick up any points on the weekend, but his North Dakota Fighting Hawks are off to the NCAA Midwest Regionals in Cincinnati, OH to take on Northeastern Friday afternoon.

NCAA DIII: Jeremy Finger (Bruins ’10-12) and the UMass-Boston Beacons are headed to the NCAA DIII Frozen Four in Lake Placid, NY after defeating Hobart 2-0 on Saturday. They’ll join St. Norbert, SUNY Geneseo, and Wisconsin-Stevens Point, who ended the season of Trevor Boyd, Brian Bachnak, and Cory Dunn with a 5-2 win over Adrian on Saturday.

USHL: Jake Kielly (Bruins ’14-15) made 19 saves as Tri City routed Des Moines on Friday, 6-3. Nico Sturm (Bruins ’14-15) had two assists for the Storm in the same game. Sturm finished a three-point weekend with an assist in a 4-1 Saturday win over Sioux City. Sioux City fell on Friday as well, as Fargo shut them out, 2-0 with Niko Hildenbrand (Bruins ‘13-14) scoring one of the two goals. Riese Zmolek (Bruins ‘14-15) picked up an assist in a 2-1 come from behind win for Cedar Rapids over Dubuque on Friday.
