BRUINS ALUMNI REPORT: Smith, Sanford stay hot + big weekend in USHL

NCAA DI: C.J. Smith (Bruins ’11-13) had an assist in each on UMass Lowell’s weekend games against Notre Dame. The Riverhawks and Fighting Irish tied 2-2 on Friday before Lowell claimed a 3-2 Saturday win. Smith is tied for 2nd on the team in points with 11. Jason Pawloski (Bruins ’12-13) started both games for Minnesota State this past weekend as the Mustangs tied Northern Michigan twice. He made 14 saves in Friday’s 1-1 draw and 11 stops on Saturday in what was a 2-2 final score. Pawloski is 3-0-2 and at least for now seems to have seized the starting job. Brennan Sanford (Bruins ’13-14) made it 3 straight weekends with a goal as he scored Michigan State’s 3rd goal in a 4-4 Saturday tie against Michigan Tech.

USHL:  Nico Sturm (Bruins ’14-15) had a goal and an assist in Tri City’s 5-4 win over Sioux Falls on Friday. In the same game, Jake Kielly (Bruins ’14-15) notched his 3rd win, making 31 saves. Evan Smith (Bruins ’14-15) made 28 saves on 29 shots in a 2-1 Sioux City victory over Green Bay on Saturday night. Ian Scheid (Bruins ’14-15) helped set up the game-winning powerplay goal for the Musketeers. On Saturday night in Muskegon, Trey Dodd (Bruins ’13-15) scored the game winner for Dubuque in their 5-3 win over the Lumberjacks. Riese Zmolek (Bruins ’14-15) had two assists on the weekend, the first in Cedar Rapids’ 2-1 loss to Madison on Friday and the other in a 6-3 Rough Riders win in Bloomington the following night. Guillaume Leclerc (Bruins ’13-14) had an assist for the Capitals in that Friday night affair and then he scored for Madison in a high-scoring 8-5 loss to the Chicago Steel on Saturday.
