Slow Start Sinks Bruins in Aberdeen

Feb 21, 2016

Aberdeen, SD –  First period goals by Matt Pulver, Tanner Okeson, and Ethan Stewart put the Bruins in a 3-0 hole that they couldn't climb out of on Saturday night at Odde Ice Center. The Wings picked up the weekend sweep and jumped over the Brookings Blizzard into the fourth and final Central Division playoff spot.

The Wings set off their "Teddy Bear Toss" just 4:17 in when Pulver deflected Kyle Siemers' shot from the right point over Robbie Goor. Okeson would make it 2-0 just over three minutes later, depositing a puck off the end boards into an empty net. Stewart scored his first NAHL goal at 14:47 of the period, cashing his own rebound after driving the net out of the corner.

Kris Carlson entered the game to start the 2nd period and the Bruins broke through on the scoreboard at 7:19 when Jacob Paganelli scored his 10th goal of the season, set up by Gilbert Gabor and Jade Miller. The Bruins trailed 3-1 after two periods, just as they did Friday.

In the 3rd, Aberdeen's Carter Roo put the game away at the 4:59 mark, wristing a shot past Carlson's blocker and extending the Wings lead to 4-1. Carlson made 24 saves on 25 shots in the relief appearance and Peter Thome stopped 43 in the win. The Bruins now play the Minnesota Magicians in three straight games, starting Friday at Riverside Arena – a 7:05 faceoff.
