Richards, Lawrence, Misiak Help Bruins Stall Jets

Jan 29, 2017

AUSTIN, MN – A dominant performance by the Bruins’ top line of Jon Richards, Cole Lawrence, and Justin Misiak accounted for four of their five goals in a 5-1 victory over the NAHL-leading Janesville Jets on Saturday night at Riverside Arena. With the win, the Bruins split both the weekend and season series with Janesville.

Richards opened the scoring at 3:51 of the first, set up perfectly by his line-mates. Quick puck movement from Misiak to Lawrence in the neutral zone sprang Richards on a partial breakaway. Richards flipped a backhand shot past Jets netminder Derek Schaedig for a 1-0 Bruins lead. At 8:23 of the period, Adam Roeder tied the game, picking off an Evan Cholak clear attempt during a Janesville power play. Roeder drilled a wrist shot behind Jake Kucharski to even the score. It was 1-1 after one period.

About seven minutes into the second period, AJ Drobot had a goal waived off because the whistle was blown before his shot trickled through Schaedig. At 9:24, the Bruins did regain the lead when Richards deflected a Lane Krenzen shot wide of the net causing a wild carom back into the crease and eventually over the goal line. Less than two minutes later, Schaedig would be pulled when Justin Misiak’s shot from outside the blue line got past him, making it 3-1 – the score at the end of 40 minutes.

The Bruins added on in the third when Cole Lawrence joined the party at 10:42, driving the net off a faceoff and finishing a bad-angle shot from Richards. At 15:49, Dante Zapata set up AJ Drobot for the Bruins’ fifth and final goal. Jake Kucharski made 25 saves to earn his ninth win while Schaedig was saddled with the loss, going 10/13. Jacob Barczewski faced 14 shots in relief, stopping 12. Richards and Lawrence each finished the night with three points – a four point weekend for Richards.

The win put the Bruins into a tie for third place in the Central as Brookings lost its sixth game in a row. They remain home to host Aberdeen on Friday and Saturday night at Riverside. Tickets go on sale Monday morning at vendor locations.
