Offensive Struggles Continue as Bruins Fall to Magicians

Mar 2, 2016

AUSTIN, MN – Brady Heppner scored the game winner followed by an empty netter to seal a 3-1 Magicians victory over the Bruins on Wednesday night at Riverside Arena. It was the six win in seven games for the Magicians in the season head-to-head and the eleventh loss in the last thirteen overall games for the Bruins.

For the first time in eight games, the Bruins scored the first goal when Zach Kennedy sat on the doorstep of Magicians goaltender Will Ulrich and tapped in a pass from Miha Zajc late in the first period. The Magicians were quick to respond though as Andrew Zerban capialized on a Bruins turnover 1:20 later. The score was 1-1 after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd period, Brady Heppner gave the Magicians the lead early on when Kris Carlson couldn't handle John Peterson's shot and Heppner put away the rebound. The Magicians led 2-1 after two.

The Bruins killed off a double minor high sticking penalty and Carlson stopped a Zerban penalty shot, but the Magicians sealed the game with Heppner's empty netter at 19:54. The Bruins won the shot battle for the seventh team in the season series with a 35-34 edge but Ulrich made 34 saves to shut the door.

The Bruins travel to Brookings on Friday for a 7:30 faceoff before having Saturday off.
