Bruins Lose in Overtime

The Austin Bruins were back in action as the rivalry between the Brookings Blizzard and the Black and Yellow was restored in South Dakota.  The first period from the Larson Ice Center did not start as the Bruins planned. Just over a minute into the period Brookings led 1-0. Austin was able to tie it up as the puck was jammed in by AJ Reid. Brookings was able to regain their lead moments late. With just four seconds left in the period Kody Rueter fought Aidan Cavallini. At the end of one period of play Brookings led 2-1. The second stanza Brookings scored two Power Play goals to take a 4-1 lead.  Austin scored their second goal of the night as Brandon Wahlin set up Riley Colvard. Austin scored on the Power Play as John Simonson was set up by AJ Reid. At the end of two frames Austin trailed 4-3 and was outshot 29-24. The third period Austin added another Power Play goal. This time it was Jay Dickman, AJ Reid and Cody Dixon had the assists. At the end of regulation the score remained 4-4. In the overtime Tommy Williams had the decider as the Bruins lost to the Blizzard for the first time in six meetings. Austin will battle the Blizzard tomorrow night in Austin.
