Bruins gain point in OT loss to Magicians

Feb 12, 2016

AUSTIN, MN – Braxton Collins' 2nd goal of the game with 1:50 left in OT gave the Minnesota Magicians their fourth win of the season against the Austin Bruins in a 3-2 final on Friday night at Riverside Arena. The Bruins fell to 1-5-1 in their last seven games but picked up a point in the standings.

Collins scored the first goal of the game as well as the last, opening the scoring at 1:57 of the first, driving the net and putting a rebound away off a shot by Jacob Gammicchia. After being held scoreless for 37:56, the Bruins got even late in the 2nd period when Jade Miller found a puck in the goal crease and backhanded it into an open net. Evan Cholak and John Pesek set it up and the game was tied at 1 after two periods.

In the 3rd, the Magicians regained their lead at 4:24 on a long shot from defenseman Kyle Wagner that Bruins goaltender Robbie Goor likely did not see fly past his glove. The Bruins answered with a powerplay goal from Justin Misiak at 10:40, tying the game at two. Miller and Jan Stefka had the helpers. At 3:10 of overtime, Collins beat Miller up the far wall and backhanded a shot past Goor for the game winner. The Bruins fell to 2-2 in OT while the Magicians got their third extra-session win in eight tries.

The Bruins once again heavily outshot their opponent, with 35 offerings on Will Ulrich to only 14 Magicians shots on Goor. Austin travels to La Crosse, WI to finish the seasons series with the Coulee Region Chill on Saturday night at 7:00.
