Bruins Drop First of Season

The Austin Bruins faced off against the Fresno Monsters of the West Division on day two of North American Hockey League Showcase. Day one of the showcase the Bruins bested the Kalamazoo K-Wings 3-2, Brandon Wahlin had a strong NAHL debut with two points. Austin Nelson also scored his first goal of his junior hockey career. The first frame Fresno got off to a quick start as the Monsters punched in two quick goals on the power play. The Monsters scored another goal as the period ended as Jeffrey Pauluk found the back of the net. At the first intermission Fresno Monsters outshot the Bruins 15-9. The second period the Bruins had some scoring opportunities but could not capitalize. Nick Lehr made his NAHL debut in the second period and steered away four shots for the Bruins. At the second intermission the Bruins were outshot 15-9. The Bruins kept it close in the third period as John Kirby beat Scholl on the backhand making it a 3-1 contest. The Monsters were able to get one past Nick Lehr, making the final score 4-1. The Bruins are back in action tomorrow night as they play the Michigan Warriors of the North Division.
