Bruins can't lower magic number, fall in Richfield

Mar 24, 2016

RICHFIELD, MN – Evan Cholak scored early in the 3rd period to bring a 3-1 deficit back to a single goal, but the Magicians held off the Bruins' push and won for the seventh time in eight tries against Austin this season on Thursday night.

Trying to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Magicians scored first at 4:38 of the first period when John Peterson got in behind the defense and put a shot over the shoulder of Kris Carlson. The Bruins got even just over two minutes later on a Jacob Paganelli power play goal, from Luke Notermann and Gilbert Gabor. Former Bruin Hugo Gallet, playing in his first game against his former team, restored the Magicians leads with a powerplay goal at 14:23. The Magicians led 2-1 after one period.

As has been the story all too often this season, the Bruins played a dominant second period but fell even further behind as Taylor Tweeten's pretty power play goal at 12:49 was the only marker of the middle frame.

Cholak snapped a 10 game point-less drought with his goal from Paganelli at 2:36 of the 3rd, but Will Ulrich slammed the door and Jack Christensen sealed the game with an empty netter at 19:35. The Magicians jumped over Aberdeen into fourth place and will now root for the Bruins who head to Odde Ice Center for a pair of 7:15 faceoffs with the Wings on Friday and Saturday night. The Bruins magic number remains six points.
