Bruins Beat Blizzard

The Austin Bruins traveled to Brookings South Dakota for the first time Friday night to battle the Brookings Blizzard.  The Blizzard franchise relocated from Alexandria Minnesota this past summer. The opening frame the Nelson Ice Center was great for the Black and Yellow. Cody Dixon started the scoring early, assisting was AJ Reid and Brandon Wahlin. The B’s added their second with a goal from Brandon Wahlin the assists went to Austin Nelson and Riley Colvard. With the shots 10-0 in the first period Blizzard bench boss Cory Laylin called a timeout. Right after the timeout Nolan Kirley fought Cody Marooney as the two exchanged punches on the center dot, Nolan Kirley got the best of Cody Marooney. At the end of two periods of play Austin led 2-0 and outshot Brookings 15-3. The second period the home fans cheered as Tommy Williams tipped a hard shot from the point past Bruins goaltender Jason Pawloski. The second period Austin continued to get scoring chances as the period progressed. After two periods of play Austin led 2-1 and outshot Brookings 22-17. The third period was full of action as both teams had plenty of chances. Austin was able to score a power play goal as John Simonson was the goal getter. With the score 3-1 in favor of Austin, Brookings pulled their net minder for an extra attacker. With just 16 seconds left in regulation Brookings added another goal to make it 3-2. With the Bruins 3-2 victory they are now tied for first place and have won four games in a row. The Bruins will conclude play on the weekend tomorrow night against the Bismarck Bobcats.
