BRUINS ALUMNI REPORT: Jade Miller to Frozen Four

Mar 29, 2017

NCAA DI: With help from a goal by CJ Smith (Bruins ’11-13), U-Mass Lowell defeated Cornell 5-0 Saturday in the Northeast Regional Semis, but saw their season come to a heartbreaking end with a 3-2 OT loss to Notre Dame in finals on Sunday. The River Hawks couldn’t hold a 2-1 third period lead, ending the season for Smith and Guillaume Leclerc (Bruins ’13-14), neither of whom registered a point on Sunday. Smith wrapped up his Junior season with 51 points in 41 games, second on the team. In the same region, it was the Minnesota Golden Gophers falling to Notre Dame 3-2 on Saturday, ending the year for Luke Notermann (Bruins ‘15-16) and Nick Lehr (Bruins ’11-14). The Junior season of Johnny Simonson (Bruins ’11-13) also came to an end via OT, as North Dakota dropped a double-overtime thriller to Boston University in the West Regional Semis. Coming out of that region and heading to the Frozen Four are Jade Miller’s (Bruins ’15-16) University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, who won a pair of OT games by 3-2 finals against Ohio State and BU. They’ll take on Harvard Thursday night in Chicago. Harvard eliminated both Providence (Josh Wilkins (Bruins ’14-15), Kris Carlson (Bruins ’15-16)) and Air Force (A.J. Reid (Bruins ’11-13)) in the East Regional.

NCAA DIII: Trevor Boyd (Bruins ’13-15), Brian Bachnak (Bruins ’14-15), and Cory Dunn (Bruins ’13-15) were all held pointless as Adrian lost to eventual National Champion Norwich in OT, 5-4 on Friday. Norwich’s opponent was Trinity, who despite an assist from Liam Feeney (Bruins ’14-15), fell by a 4-1 final.

USHL: JC MacLean (Bruins ’14-15) had a point in each of Sioux City’s weekend games with an assist in a 6-3 Friday win over Waterloo and then the final goal in a 9-3 rout over Dubuque on Sunday.
